I searched the forum but only found one mention of anyone using electric fence. I’ve raised multiple heritage breeds where I started them in hog panels but trained them to where I could contain them with two hot wires. The first wire was about 10 inches from the ground and the second about 6 inches above it. Is there any reason this won’t work for AGH’s? Has anyone had experience with this? Also, if I give them too much pasture will they put on weight too quickly? Or is that just a concern with grain and other feeds? Also, also, I am in Oklahoma City and looking for registered piglets and/or breeding pairs. Thanks in advance, Josh.

I use a 2 wire electric system like you described and it works great for the adults. The piglets are able to go under the lowest wire so you have to watch them. I’ve got piglets that will be ready to go in a few weeks and soon they should be too big to go under the lowest wire. I’m down in East Texas just north of Tyler.

The farmer I am getting my breeding stock from has his pigs in open pasture with a two wire setup he feeds twice a day about 4 lbs per 11 pigs and not one pig was overweight. The piglets and mother stay in a hog panel pen till they are at least 30 lbs then they are too big to fit under the wire.
